The exemption makes granny flats simpler. Your site still matters.

Certain new, single-storey standalone dwellings up to 70m² can be built without a building consent when all exemption conditions are met. A PIM is still required before work begins, and resource consent or other approvals may still be needed.

Where a property needs closer investigation, our fixed-fee Desktop Site Feasibility Review considers mapped constraints, planning information, services and the indicative available area before we recommend the right next step.

This gives you a clearer pathway into design, with fewer assumptions and avoidable surprises.

    01 Initial Project Call

    Understand your goals, timing and whether Stratum is the right fit. Straightforward projects may move directly to design. Where a site needs closer investigation, we begin with a fixed-fee Site Feasibility Report.

  • 02 Desktop Feasibility Review

    Property-specific review of mapped constraints, services, planning information and indicative available area.

    03 Concept Design and PIM

    Develop the design and prepare the PIM application information.
